Center for General Education was funded in 1996. It not only accorded with school believes – localization, specialization, diversification and internationalization, but also stuck to the visions of tradition, innovation, excellence, and professionalism.

Based on the reflection and development of humanity education as well as connection between general education and vocational education, the overall goal of general education was set up as follows:

 

To broaden students' international vision:

It is to understand the evolution trend of world in order to have students' literacy become more macroscopic and fit the synchronic development.

 

 

To deepen students' concern for local culture:

It is to strengthen the identification and connection between human and territory in order to contribute, carry on and innovate local culture.

 

 

To cultivate student's abilities of lifelong learning:

It is to cultivate students' literacy and abilities of lifelong learning, for instances, the literacy and abilities of communication, teamwork, problem solution, and self-learning.

 

 

To cultivate students' extensive humane spirit:

It is to seek meaning of human existence, to activate humane concern and to be aware of universal merit.

 

 

It is to develop diverse cultures with ethnic meaning. It is to integrate multicultures with of economic significance from each department to develop general education courses with immersion and topic curriculums.

 

It is to construct Paradigm Education model through the general education lectures. Scholars, experts, and prominent personages are invited for giving lectures in order to increase teachers’ and students’ understanding of the connotation of general education, i.e. cosmopolitan vision, local concern, innovation abilities and interpersonal relationship.

 

It is to plan curriculum of General Education Passport to have students apply knowledge, experience lives, mold temperament, cooperate and interact with environment through practice. Moreover, through the impetus of general education teacher system, it is to assist students in developing problem solution abilities and cultivating healthy personality and correct outlook on life.  

 

It is to combine local cultures in Taitung area and integrate the general education courses. Based on diversities, the courses are designed in accordance with life and the community, and the localization.
